Presentation Information Sheet

Sharing the results of your research is an important part of the research process and is an assessable requirement.

In seminar room QA5 all students will be required to make a 20-minute presentation that offers a comprehensive summary of your research project. The schedule for each presentation is as follows:

• You should plan to arrive at QA5 no later than 10 minutes before your presentation begins. Please bring: (a) a PowerPoint copy of your presentation on a memory stick or CD-ROM and (b) three printed copies of your presentation (printed 6 slides per page).
• As soon as the previous presentation finishes, load your presentation on the computer and be prepared to start on time.
• Your presentation should be 20 minutes long, followed by a 10-minute question-and-answer period. If your presentation exceeds 20 minutes you may not be allowed to finish or marks will be deducted.
• The examination panel will share assessment sheets with your supervisor, who will provide feedback about your presentation at a later point.

To provide consistency in assessment, two members of the panel, the 158.799 Coordinator and another IT Postgraduate Advisor, will be the same throughout the day. The third member of the panel will be your supervisor, except others may also attend.

The presentation will principally be marked on both presentation content and presentation style.

To do well on this presentation students should utilise the following resources:

• Critically, draft your presentation at least a week in advance and get comments from your supervisor.
• Just as important, rehearse the presentation several times, preferably with an audience who can provide feedback.
• Consult the online tutorial "Making an Effective Business Plan Presentation", especially the criteria for presentation content and style.
• Review the "How to Make an Effective Presentation in 20 Minutes" PowerPoint file.
